Story
My son Edward was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia back in Feb 2010. After achieving remission and being free of cancer for 2 years, he relapsed in June 2012.
Edward required much more intensive treatment including full body radiotherapy to kill off his bone marrow completely followed by a bone marrow transplant (rescue) by his little sister Audrey. I am happy to say that we are coming up on 2 years post transplant in October and Edward is doing well. Some of his friends were not so lucky. Further, the effects don’t ever stop. Edward will live with the effects in various ways for the rest of his life.
Racing for Life was set-up by parents like Alex and I to raise money for research and trials for drugs that cure, increase survivability or are less evasive and damaging.
It is not possible to put into words the pain and suffering the kids go through and sometimes for no positive outcome. For this reason we continue to raise funds to support the combined efforts of the paediatric oncologists at Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick.
Through pain killers, strapping and ice packs, my knees and I are attempting the City to Surf again. Please help support Racing for Life by sponsoring me. Anything will do.....
Thanks, Dave
